Winter Is Coming!

The first dusting of snow arrived yesterday, below is a stunning photograph of the  Ballymeanoch Standing Stones inspiring the Kilmartin Museum Winter images series. 

The two alignments at Ballymeanoch are the most visible part of a concentration of ancient monuments in the immediate area.

If you are in the area you must visit Kilmartin Glen, the Kilmartin Museum Cafe is open until Dec 23rd this year, so you can warm up with some tasty soup and do some Christmas shopping while you are there!

Kilmartin Glen is one of Scotland’s richest prehistoric landscapes. With over 800 historic monuments, cairns, standing stones, stone circles and rock art dating back over 5000 years!

A Celebration of Kilmartin Museum

Kilmartin Museum is in the village of Kilmartin, in the Heart of Argyll. It is about 2 hour’s drive from Glasgow and under an hour from Oban and Inveraray.

Kilmartin is centrally placed for onward exploration of the Crinan Canal, Moine Mhor and Taynish National Nature Reserves, Inveraray Castle and Jail, Oban, Auchindrain Township and the gardens of Crarae and Arduaine.
